trah-GAH-dohadjectiveInformal

A Colombian Spanish slang term. Browse all Colombian slang.

What it means

  1. Head over heels; besotted. Estar tragado de alguien is to have it bad, and the passive construction is the point — it is something that happens to you.

  2. La traga is the crush itself, and can mean either the feeling or the person: 'es mi traga del colegio'.

Literally: Swallowed.

Examples with translations

  • Ese man está tragado de ella hace años.

That guy has been mad about her for years.

  • Se le nota la traga a leguas.

You can see the crush from a mile off.

Where it comes from

From tragar, 'to swallow'. Being swallowed by the feeling rather than having it — Spanish generally prefers this framing for love, and the Colombian form is unusual only in how everyday it is.
