What it means
Total catastrophe; the end of everything. The noun names a situation past saving — 'we are completely fucked' compressed into one word.
As an interjection, an expression of awe at the sheer scale of something, which can be admiring as easily as appalled: пиздец как круто is 'insanely good'.
As an intensifier before an adjective it simply means 'extremely', with no disaster implied at all — the word's most common use in young speech.
Examples with translations
Всё, приехали, полный пиздец.
That's it, we're done — total disaster.
Там пиздец какая очередь.
The queue there is insane.
Note: Purely an intensifier here. Nothing has gone wrong; the queue is merely long.
Where it comes from
From пизда (a taboo word for the vulva) plus the agent-noun suffix -ец, which in Russian readily forms nouns of terminal outcome — compare the euphemistic капец and кранты built on the same pattern.
