飲み会 (nomikai)

   A drinking party: a booked table, a set course, a fixed start time and, in a work context, an attendance list.

   飲みニケーション — 飲み plus 'communication' — names the belief that the real business gets done here rather than in the office.

   Declining but not dead. Younger employees increasingly decline, which older colleagues read as standoffishness.
