  1. To dance — and specifically to go and dance now, with the person you are talking to. The standard Cuban invitation, and considerably less formal than bailar.

  2. Loosely, to go out dancing for the evening.

Literally: To throw a foot.

Where it comes from

One of a large family of Cuban echar phrases (echar un cabo, to help; echar talla, to hold forth). The foot stands for the whole dance by ordinary metonymy.
