Absacker

What it means

   A nightcap — the one last drink before bed or before going home, usually something short and usually not actually the last.

   Said with a certain knowing irony: proposing an Absacker at one in the morning is understood by everyone present as an intention rather than a plan.

Where it comes from

From absacken, 'to sink, to subside' — what the drinker does afterwards, and also what the evening does. Twentieth-century, with the same nautical verb behind it that describes a ship settling in the water.
